What makes an athlete worth following on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram? Our first hurdle is that the account has to feel like it's run by a real person, not just a robot who posts the same "Let's go team!" tweet every game day. We also don't like constant product placement - if every post is shilling some energy drink the athlete has a deal with, that's an instant unfollow.

From there, things start to get less black-and-white. We like athletes who are just funny, or let us see behind the scenes of a life that we can only dream about. We like athletes who seem to be just like us, or way, way weirder than us. And we also like athletes who use their privileged lives to share some of the really cool things they get to do.

With those criteria in mind, here are our Top 10 Athletes to Follow on Social Media.
